PREFACE :

Writing this book, as the first of this kind in our country, my basic intention was to teach the reader how to use old popular prescriptions when there is no doctor at hand or in solving some health problems in the combination with medicines prescribed by a doctor. I did not wish to replace the doctor when he is necessary, neither to undermine confidence in him, but to complete the therapy with tested popular prescriptions and to increase the chances for healing.

Although man is aware that he has lived on this planet for millions of years, the written history at our disposal refers to only a few thousands years. Even these several thousands years has not been known in full. In old popular prescriptions, which are the essence of this book, I am going to reveal the secrets which have been jealously kept up to the present time and which have been passed from generation to generation and for which I am convinced that they will be the basis of the medicine of the future.

The totality of knowledge has become inaccessible to an individual. The fact that frauds are possible in this field, as they are in any area of human activity, should incite us to vigilance and to a permanent accumulation of knowledge without becoming fearful sceptics. These new endeavours can have a sense only if they contribute to a better understanding "of what makes a man" liberating him of his claustrophobia inclination and revealing to him endless possibilities in this field. It seems to be a high time to knock at the door of the established system and require that this door should not be closed for new possibilities. Of course, we do not deny the tested knowledge. We also do not forget that natural sciences liberate more and more humanity of fear and prejudices. Today's level of scientific knowledge is such that we can discuss with confidence medicinal herbs and their effects, about which old peoples had discussed for ages and have used it in practice. We can say that the veil from centuries-old secrets have been gradually taken off. Medicinal herbs have become a great field to which modern medicine should pay full attention.

Vegetative world provide us with a whole treasury of medicinal means which have been estimated and used my all peoples since distant times. In our time as well, plants and herbs present a firm basis not only for popular but also for scientific medicine, although chemical medicinal means have been more used. There is nothing magic or mysterious in the effect of medicinal herbs on man. It is only a question of the chemical effect on men, of an interaction, of a natural correlation between man and mature. Nature is a vivid force which trembles, awaked and sleeps and breathe together with us, while we try consistently to break this primordial unity. There is no more important and natural need for today's civilization than to resolve with all possible means health problems of every individual.. If we understand that every individual has his own place, path and orbit in human universe in which he will be able to fulfil the elementary wish - to be healthy, in which he will be able to search for happiness, then the new "discovery" of old traditional medicine and its transformation in everyday practice, available to each of us, has fulfilled its constructive and useful purpose.

Is it probable that new amazing discoveries face us? The real science teach us to be dubious and aware of the fact how little we all know. Are not only a few steps left to reveal secrets, to extract energy from nature in its most delicate form and to put it in the service of life. Let us move. Nature expects us with wide open hands.
